Labour leavers

Here’s an interesting set of statistics from the recent referendum showing just how much the laboutr heartlands are out of touch with the party’s policy on Europe :

The 2 authors of the “No Confidence in Corbyn” motion: Dame Margaret Hodge, Barking. 55% ‘Leave’. Ann Coffey, Stockport ‘51% Leave’.

Liz Kendal, Leicester West. 56% ‘Leave’.
Simon Danczuk, Rochdale. 57% ‘Leave’.
Angela Eagle, Wallasey, 58% ‘Leave’.
Dame Margaret Beckett, Derby South. 60% ‘Leave’.
Tristram Hunt, Stoke-on-Trent Central. 63% ‘Leave’.
Stephen Kinnock, Aberavon. 63% ‘Leave’.
Jess Phillips, Birmingham Yardley, 64% ‘Leave’.

Alan Johnson (the man in charge of Labour’s ‘Remain’ campaign!) Kingston upon Hull West and Hessle. 65% ‘Leave’.

John Mann, Bassetlaw. 65% ‘Leave’.
Tom Watson, West Bromwich East. 67% ‘Leave’
Caroline Flint, Don Valley. 67% ‘Leave’.
Ed Miliband, Doncaster North. 70% ‘Leave’.

Yvette Cooper, Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford
Ruth Smeeth (she of the ‘anti Semitic’ walk out) , Trent North
Gloria de Piero, Ashfield
– all 71% ‘Leave’. The joint 3rd highest ‘Leave’ vote of any constituencies, including Tory and UKIP ones.

Given that there are the rumours that Jeremy Corbyn actually voted to Leave when he got to the ballot box, it would perhaps explain why even ignoring the Union bought votes he was elected as leader in the first place? Much as I dislike the man, he does seem to be more in touch with the members of the Labour Party than their MPs…
